The city center of Split is old Diocletian's palace from the 4th Century, under UNESCO protection since 1979th year, which is unique in the world. Although the beginnings of the city are associated with the construction of Diocletian's Palace, archaeological finds that were excavated after 2000's show that the area was inhabited long before the Roman Emperor Diocletian's palace, where the emperor Diocletian was supposed to live out his retirement days. It is the largest and best preserved palaces in the world. East and west walls are 216 m long, 181 m southern and northern 175 m and since the latest theory it's said that palace wasn't just used as a place to rest, but as a facility for processing wool. In the complex of the palace is located the oldest cathedral in the world, the St.Dujam cathedral who is also the patron saint of Split. The cathedral is famous for its ancient doors made in 1214th year on which there are 28 carved scenes of Jesus' life, and its interior is very interesting. The cathedral itself looks very luxurious and powerful.
