Opatia

Opatia is a Croatian city on the west, with a total population of 12,719 according to the last census in 2001st year. The town is situated in a large park near the Učka Nature Park and it offers its visitors holiday in summer and winter because of its beautiful nature and landscaped old villas, beach and promenade.

Climate that prevails in Opatia is sub-Mediterranean, and the characteristics of the climate are lower temperatures than in Dalmatia and a much larger number of rainfall throughout the year. Opatia is mostly inhabited by Croats, namely 86.9% of them, while the other are minorities, mostly common Slovenes, Serbs and Italians.

Among the sights worth mentioning Villa Angiolina which symbolizes the beginning of tourism in Opatia. The building is surrounded by a park, and its interior is very nicely decorated. Opatia park, which is owned by the same owners as Ville Angiolini, is a horticultural monument which consists of 60 fields that are planted with approximately 150 species. It’s estimated that the total size of the memorial is about 3.6 ha. In addition to these attractions worth mentioning promenade called Lungomare. Along the walkways were erected numerous monuments in memory of famous people who have stayed in Opatia. Hotel Kvarner is the first modern hotel in the Adriatic and in addition it  is the oldest hotel on the Adriatic. The hotel has 87 rooms and it’s rated with 3 stars. In the olden days, the hotel served as a meeting place of emperors of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the European kings.

Ichichi beach could be called as the best arranged, and with it, the largest beach in Opatia. This beach is located in the center of Ichichi and has a length of 441m. Swimmers can access the beach by 5 sides and the city has made and a separate entrance for the disabled. You do not have to worry about their safety because there’s a lifeguard on the case for that. On the beach are also available playground and sports facilities as well as catering facilities and toilets. This beach, because of its purity, has been awarded the Blue Flag.
